The Trefoil Guild

Trefoil Guild News

Girlguiding UK will celebrate its centenary in 2010 and has issued a “Change The World” challenge by supporting selected charities. Cumbria South TG has chosen “The Pride of Cumbria” air ambulance part of the Great North Air Ambulance Service as its charity.

On Saturday 2nd May the County of Cumbria South Trefoil Guild held a fundraising coffee morning in the Institute at Kirkby Lonsdale with all proceeds going to “The Pride Of Cumbria” and in just 2 hours the event raised £350.00.  A very big thank you to the local people who gave generous support and to Trefoil Guild members from across the County.

How the Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group got involved...

Trefoil Guild members with the Pride of Cumbria crewIn March, some Trefoil members visited the helicopter base at Langwathby to meet with some of the crew and administration staff.  There they learned about the Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group who are the biggest single fundraisers for GNAS. This year on 20th July the bikers’ annual 500-mile ride is scheduled around the boundary of the area which the helicopter serves. The bikers will aim to raise £50,000 in sponsorship with this one event.

Lilian contacted the Bikers on behalf of the Trefoil Guild to invite them to the coffee morning.  There was an immediate and positive reply. After meeting up on the beach at Ullswater, where they cooked breakfast, about 20 plus bikers headed for Kirkby Lonsdale and roared into town on a variety of different bike models including Harley Davidson, Yamaha and BMW to give their support to the Trefoil ladies.

They are a great bunch of guys and it was a pleasure to meet them.  Some of them had driven as many as 150 miles to support us. Fortunately it was a lovely day so they enjoyed the ride through our beautiful countryside.   A couple of the ladies were treated to a ride on a Harley.  Wow! See the You Tube video that the bikers filmed including the coffee morning!

Fundraising in support of the helicopter will continue for some months to come and the Trefoil Guild will maintain the link it has established with the Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group.
