VE Day Celebrations with Girlguiding
We have been contacted by Claire Hensman, the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, encouraging us to take part in the V.E. day celebrations this coming Friday.
‘As you will be aware 8 May 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (commonly known as VE Day). This year, the government moved the May bank holiday to VE Day to allow the nation to remember the sacrifice so many made in the fight against fascism. We had been hoping for communities to run a whole host of activities but given the restrictions due to COVID-19, sadly these have had to be cancelled’
We can still commemorate the day though, and here are some ways members of Girlguiding Cumbria South can take part.:
Before 8 May
1. Colour in this bunting, showing the many ways Girlguiding members helped with the war effort, and display it for everyone to see.
You can find the Bunting in Files on the Members Facebook Page
On 8 May
Wearing your uniform
2. 11.00 am ., take part in the two minutes silence to pay tribute to all heroes past and present
3. 2.45pm Listen to Churchill?s victory speech and then let?s celebrate by having a virtual party.
4. Friday evening join the rest of the nation singing ?We?ll Meet Again? which is very fitting in the current situation
We would love you to share your photos/videos throughout the day
By coming together, albeit virtually, we can pay tribute to the Second World War generation and show our gratitude to them for their service and sacrifice during the war
